Maintaining Power Tools

18 Nov

It is not a difficult task to keep your power tools safe and in working condition. Most power tools, like screw guns and sanders, need to be blown out after each use. An aerosol can could easily clean the tools. Make sure that there is no buildup of debris inside. This could ruin the tool altogether, or at least its performances quality, by clogging the inside and stopping.

You should also wipe down any tools used. Clean off dust or residue and the performance will continue to be as good as always. This is a simple step that many people forget. You can oil any air tools. You put one drop of oil for every nails shot from a nail gun. Too much oil can make a sludge-like buildup. If you don’t use enough oil, the metal will create a friction that causes internal breakage. This could be expensive, compared to a drop of oil.

You can top off the oil inside of your air compressor too. If you use it often, the oil will need to be refilled more often. You must also drain a compressor’s tank after every use. If you forget to drain it, there can be immovable rust damage. Finally, all power tools should be kept dry and indoors. Heat, rain, and snow can affect the performance, so keep your tools dry and at room temperature.
